What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a buzzing or ringing in your ear that you can hear with no external sound source. It can be in either one or both ears. However, Tinnitus doesn’t just have to be ringing it can also be:

  • Buzzing
  • Whistling
  • Hissing

What causes Tinnitus?

It is damage to the middle or inner ear. This damage can occur as a result of being exposed to loud sounds on a regular basis or over the course of your life. These loud sounds that can damage your ear can be from anything over 85 decibels without adequate sound protection, this can be sounds such as power tools like chainsaws or jackhammers or loud music from headphones or at concerts.

Can Acupuncture help with Tinnitus?

There has been numerous studies that have looked into the effectiveness of Acupuncture for Tinnitus treatment. ear accupunctureOne particular study found that acupuncture had a significant outcome in reducing the intensity of tinnitus on patients, which in turn improved their quality of life scoring. While other studies have looked into the use of acupuncture treatments on patients with tinnitus and suggested that acupuncture, in conjunction with conventional treatments could be highly beneficial. Another systematic review indicated that the use of acupuncture provided some advantages over conventional medicine.
